Something doesn’t seem right about tryouts

March 23, 2012
The Alpena News

I am writing in regard to our area baseball and softball tryouts. Why do we have tryouts when the team is already picked ahead of time. Then when the child doesn't make the team they are told they are not good. I feel the teams for the high school and Little League should be picked by people who aren't involved in it at all. It's amazing the High School teams have mostly teachers children on the team. It is unfair to the children who really want to play and deserve to play. I see this happening more and more every year. It's amazing children that were on the High School team last year aren't on this year. Then there is supposed to be a no tolerance for drugs alcohol and tobacco but yet I see kids who are on the high school smoking on their lunch breaks, getting suspended off the team for use of drugs but then they are allowed to play again. Something needs to change.
