Say what you want about Gov. Rick Snyder, but we appreciate his focused energy on issues critical to the future of our state.
This week he addressed public safety issues in Michigan. Not only did he critically identify many areas that needed attention, he also offered well thought out suggestions as to how to tackle the problems and begin moving in a new direction.
We aren't suggesting Snyder offered all the answers, or that his suggestions weren't without some pitfalls. However, rather than ignore the problem, he began a critical dialogue that needs to continue so that state residents can feel safe.
Snyder's plan has many options, but among its highlights are:
The governor's plan not only offers suggestions at dealing with short-term needs, it also addresses the root of the problem by targeting long-term challenges as well. In addition, it incorporates new technology advances, such as updating the state's emergency communication network to handle text messaging, pictures and video from phones to emergency responders.
Snyder systematically is addressing issues of concern for all of us.
From our seat, it seems a reasonable blueprint and plan for the state's ultimate successful turnaround.
