On Saturday, Feb. 18, this paper printed a rant by a person from Hubbard Lake. Not only was this letter void of any facts; it made disparaging remarks about those in the community that suffer from a variety of illnesses that cause them debilitating pain. In this day of instant information there is no reason a person can't educate themselves before shooting off their mouth.
1. All people who on medical marijuana are not on SSI or SSD. Most are productive members of society i.e. doctors, lawyers, construction workers etc.
2. Providers are allowed (by law) to recoup the cost of growing and processing.
3. They don't just hand out medical marijuana cards randomly. There are criteria that must be met (link at end of letter).
As for the rest of his rant; this person needs help. To make the claim that medical marijuana users are like drug cartels is insane. These people are suffering daily to the point they need relief and because they choose an alternative to the junk Big Pharma pushes (morphine, oxycotin, vicadin and other synthetic opiates which can kill you) they should not and must not be ostracized. On Nov. 4, 2008, 63 percent of Michiganders spoke in favor of this law.

P.S. The question of 2nd Amendment rights is still up in the air. By Michigan law no one is allowed to carry a firearm in the field if they are under the influence of intoxicating alcohol or controlled substances. The State claims in the MM law that the state will not prosecute MM card holders for federal law violations. That is the fed's job.
