CHEBOYGAN-The Alpena hockey team finally got the better of Cheboygan on its third try this season, beating the Chiefs 1-0 on Wednesday.
Jared Kwiatkowski netted the game-winner for the Wildcats in the third period on an assist from Brad Lorenz.
Alpena got a good performance in net from Bret LeTourneau and finally got a puck past Cheboygan Nick Watson, who stopped several breakaway attempts by the Wildcats.
The two teams had already played twice this season with the first game ending in a 4-4 tie and the second game going 5-4 in favor of the Chiefs in the finals of the Boosters Tournament.
"The kids played well," Alpena coach Pete Doubek said. "It was a solid game. The kids were upbeat and positive and played as a team."
Alpena returns to the ice on Friday to host Petoskey.
