ALPENA - All Saints Catholic School is celebrating Catholic Schools Week by having different events and activities focused around the theme of faith, academics and service.

Principal Nicole Hatch said the school is honoring Catholic Schools Week by having different events throughout the week, including a special fundraiser on Wednesday.

All Saints sixth- and seventh-graders set up a market day fundraiser Wednesday afternoon in the school gym in order to raise money to go on an end-of-the-school-year trip.

"We are hoping to raise enough money to go to Lansing to visit the capitol; we're going to try to make it an overnight trip and stay at one of the museums," Hatch said.

Alecia Havermahl's sixth and seventh grade students were busy setting up and running Wednesday's market day. Her students split into groups and had different tables set up throughout the gym, where they had something to sell, an activity, or a game to play.

"There are a variety of activities, games and treats throughout the gym. They've been busy working on ideas and setting up for our market day all week. It's open to all students and their parents; every half hour another grade comes in and can participate in what we're doing," Havermahl said.

Other events that took place during Catholic Schools Week include decorating T-shirts on Monday, a catechism bee on Tuesday, and a school talent show on Friday.
