It was a busy weekend for firefighters and law enforcement in Montmorency County. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday various fire departments and the sheriff department responded to three structure fires.
The first call came into the Montmorency County Central Dispatch on Saturday at 3:51 p.m. with a report of a structure fire on Matthews Street in Lewiston, south of M-32. Vienna Township Fire Department and Lewiston Fire Department responded to the scene. Deputies also assisted at the scene. The fire was under control in a short period of time.
Only minutes after the first fire call was registered another followed at 3:54 p.m. for another structure fire. The attic area of a house caught fire on County Road 489 after a chimney fire spread. Tri-Township Fire and Lewiston Fire Department responded as did deputies from the sheriff department. Crews were on scene until about 6:55 p.m.
The third fire was reported Sunday afternoon at 3:23 p.m. on County Road 624, near Avalon Road in Hillman. Hillman Fire Department and sheriff deputies responded to the blaze.
