James and Rosina Phillips are celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary. They were married at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mt. Clemens on Dec. 17, 1960. Following the ceremony they celebrated with a small reception for close family and friends.
The couple was blessed with seven children: Michael, Jeffery, Lillian, Kathleen, Stephen, Rebecca and Rachel. They also have one son-in-law, Brad Shriner, and three daughters-in-law, Kate Phillips, Elsa Phillips and Chris Phillips. Their 15 grandchildren include: Cassidy Wieschowski, Jenna Phillips, Charles Phillips, Joseph Phillips, Emily Shriner, Ian Shriner, Ava Shriner, Eric Mayo, James Mayo, Joshua Phillips, Matthew Fleming, Craig Phillips, Christine Phillips, Alan Phillips and Zachary Phillips. Sadly two of their children are no longer with them. Rebecca passed away in 2001 and Jeffery in 2007.
They lived in Mt. Clemens and the surrounding area during the early years of their marriage, but relocated to Alpena in 1974 when Jim founded J.D. Phillips Corporation. Later, once all their children were in school, Rosina went back to school and earned her degree in nursing. She worked at Alpena General Hospital as a registered nurse for several years.
Both Jim and Rosina are enjoying their retirement and traveling to various locations around the world, with their favorite being Mackinac Island. They also look forward to time spent with their family.
