ALPENA - The partnership between the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce and Target Alpena could finally become a reality after the Target board votes on the matter Tuesday. The chamber board already approved the union, which should help spur economic growth in Alpena.
Chamber Executive Director Jackie Krazczak said she thinks the Target board will have enough votes to approve the partnership and thinks both parties focusing and acting together will work well.
"This will streamline the efforts of both of the organizations," Krawczak said. "This will allow us to be more effective in working toward and achieving the same goals."
The two parties will continue to have individual boards and mission statements, but in terms of cooperation Krawczak anticipates things will flow smoothly. She said the chamber has been shifting its focus toward economic development for some time, and that direction wasn't going to change whether Target joined forces or not.
"The chamber had planned to go down the route of economic development with or without Target," Krawczak said. "But by joining Target it only helps and should only make both more effective. It's exciting."
