Lawrence C. (Larry) and Patricia (Pat) LaHaie of 216 Avery St., Alpena, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party held Sept. 9 at the American Legion Hall.
The couple's anniversary cake was in the shape of a cross and had a couple getting on a couch that was from Pat's mother's cake when she had her 50-year anniversary. The board the cake was on was the same board she had when she got married in 1961. Larry still plays pool at 83 years of age. On the cake Larry had a small pool stick with round candy balls for pool balls. Pat was holding a bingo card with small bingo cards around her.
Each person as they came in was presented with a gold rose made of candy kisses as a thank-you made by Pat. Dinner was catered by Kathy Purol. Music was played by Over the Hill Band. A display of pictures of Pat and Larry from when they were young to the present time made by their son-in-law, Bruce Cushman, was hung on the wall.
Members of the original wedding party who attended the anniversary celebration were sister, Beverly Rios of Loveland, Colo.; sister, Diane Struzik of Atlanta; brother, Leroy Kuznicki of Edmore; and Marvin Kuznicki of Muskegon, best man and brother of the bride. Other friends came from Saginaw, Rogers City, Muskegon and Colorado.
Mr. LaHaie and the former Pat Kuznicki were married Sept. 9, 1961, at St. Ignatius in Rogers City. They have a daughter, Yvette L. (Bruce) Cushman of Alpena, and grandchild, Jared Cushman.
Larry retired from Besser in 1990. Pat retired from Alpena General Hospital as a pharmacy tech in 1997. She also sells Avon, is secretary for the Eagles Auxiliary and treasurer for the American Legion.
