The Alpena City Band is kicking off its 2011 season with its first concert of the season June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Bandshell in Bay View Park. The concert will last approximately one hour and feature several familiar marches, overtures and medleys.
The band, under the baton of Director Jeff Stafford, has an ambitious schedule for this season's summer concert series. Concerts will occur weekly on Thursdays through Aug. 11.
On June 16, the band will be performing a "green" concert, complete with a bottle drive and a program composed entirely of music from the band's music archive.
The band will also be a part of Alpena's Fourth of July parade, with a concert later in the afternoon prior to True North's Summer Concert in the Park.
As in prior years, the band will host its annual Children's Concert on July 21, which will feature ice cream from Neiman's Family Market, a petting zoo, balloons and clowns.
The band's final special event of the season will happen Aug. 4, with a Polka Concert composed of polkas and marches from the band's music archive.
