Members of the Zonta Club of Alpena recently participated in the Zonta International District 15 Area 1 Spring Workshop. The day-long workshop was held at the Otsego Club and Resort in Gaylord.
Zonta International District 15 is comprised of 44 clubs and a total of 1,017 members. It annually conducts four area spring workshops within the State of Michigan.
Approximately 36 Zontians representing various clubs throughout the district were in attendance and included Zonta Club of Alpena members Penny Boldrey, Joyce Brilinski, Monica Bushey, Grace Marshall, Jane Speer and Denise Tobias.

Cheri Nutter, president of the Zonta Club of Gaylord, welcomed attendees to the workshop themed, "Connections." ZI District 15 Gov. Denise Quarles encouraged Zontians to focus their community service projects on improving the health of women, the prevention of violence against women, and to help create a greater awareness of human trafficking in the United States.
District 15 Lt. Gov. Karen Armaly shared with attendees that recruiting and retaining new members is a top priority for Zonta International. In addition, she recognized the Zonta Club of Alpena for their 35 percent increase in membership from June 1, 2010 to April 30, 2011.
Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to enhance the status of women both locally and worldwide. There are a total of 31,110 members who belong to a total of 1,212 clubs which are located in 65 countries.
