Rogers City Community Theatre doing classic musical

March 2, 2011
The Alpena News

Tickets are now on sale for Rogers City Community Theatre's latest live production, "Singin' in the Rain."

The show is a Broadway extravaganza written as a tribute to the beloved movie, "Singin' in the Rain," which was itself a tribute to the early days of Hollywood during the transition from silent films to talkies.

"This is surely the most technically challenging show we have attempted to date, but the hard work and persistence of the cast and technical crew has really paid off - bigtime," said Director Karl W. Heidemann.

Some of the difficulties included teaching members of the cast to tap dance, organizing the high-energy big production numbers, learning vaudeville comedy routines, making the film scenes that play on the theatre's big movie screen during the play, creating beautiful period costumes for the large cast, and finally, the big one: making it rain on stage.

"Thanks to the talented cast and creative technical crew, all of these challenges have been met head on," said Heidemann. "The result will be an unforgettable evening of entertainment."

Tickets are available at the theatre box office, Presque Isle Advance office and Rogers City Area Chamber of Commerce. Tickets prices are: $10 for regular admission, $9 for seniors (age 60 plus) and $6 for students.

Season tickets also are available (one admission to all four 2011 shows) at $35, which is $5 off regular admission prices. Six-pack tickets (six admissions to any of the 2011 shows in any combination) are $50, which is $10 off regular admission prices.

In addition to "Singin' in the Rain," the 2011 season includes the comedy, "Red, White, and Tuna;" a summer youth theatre production of "Willy Wonka, Jr.;" and the classic comedy, "Arsenic and Old Lace."

Show dates for "Singin' in the Rain" are March 4-6 and March 11-13. Shows times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Call 734-3861 for more information.
