Sasha Walker and Shawn Shafto exchanged their wedding vows June 26 at First United Methodist Church in Alpena. Mayor Carol Shafto officiated at the 3 p.m. double-ring ceremony along with Rev. Dr. Susan Prichard, cousin of the groom.
The bride is the daughter of Lori and Dale Turner of Rives Junction. The groom is the son of Carol Shafto of Alpena and Tim Shafto of Lansing.
Attending Sasha were Heather Durfee, Melody Alexander, Sara Hollis and Gina Verdoni, friends of the bride, and Becky Ludwiczak, cousin of the groom. Attending Shawn were Scott Durfee, Adam Neumann and Rob Bruce, friends of the groom and Geoff Shafto, brother of the groom. Sasha was escorted down the aisle by her father, Dale Turner, and her grandfather, Roger Reeve.
Flower girls for the ceremony were Katelynn Ludwiczak and Braelyn Durfee. The rings were brought down the aisle by Cailan Durfee in his special Spiderman backpack, a birthday gift from Shawn and Sasha.
Shawn sang "Panis Angelicus" for his wedding, accompanied by family friend Loretta Beyer.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at First United Methodist Church. The parents of the groom hosted a backyard picnic rehearsal dinner. The newlyweds enjoyed a honeymoon week at Hubbard Lake.
Sasha is a 2006 graduate of Leslie High School in Leslie. Shawn graduated from Alpena High School in 2001 and from Alpena Community College in 2006. Both Sasha and Shawn attended Lansing Community College. Shawn is enrolled in the music education program at Central Michigan University where they are making their home at 14 Kensington Circle, Apt. G, Mount Pleasant, 48858.
