Donald and Blanche MacNall celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 14 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alpena, beginning with mass, the blessing of their marriage by Father Greg McCallum and an apostolic blessing from Pope Benedict XVI.
Don and the former Blanche Pilarski were married Aug. 13, 1960, at St. Casimir Church in Posen. The Rev. Stephen Kozak officiated.
The couple has two daughters, Kathleen (Tim) Scheid of Grand Rapids, and Julie (Brian) Coleman of Ypsilanti. They have two granddaughters, Melissa and Deanna Scheid, and two grandsons, Joshua and Caleb Coleman.
Members of the original wedding party who shared in the anniversary celebration were maid of honor, Blanche's sister, Sally Jesionowski and her husband Richard, Margie Betoski and her husband Dan, and Julian Pilarski and his wife Judy.
A dinner and dance attended by more than 200 guests followed at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Alpena. Dinner was catered by Lucas & Jore and dance music was provided by the Norm Siess Variety Band. Congratulations were received from President Obama and wife Michelle. The American flag which flew over the capital on Aug. 13, 2010, was also sent to the couple.
