Thompson wins Beck scholarship
Sarah Thompson was awarded tghe Alpena Exchange Club Stanley C. Beck Scholarship on Tuesday. Thompson was one of six semi-finalists for the $1,000 award; the others were Alexandra Benson, Rachel Carlson, Emily Howard, Kelsey Lightner and Rachel MacMaster.
Thompson, the daughter of Mark and Beckie Thomson, plans on attending Northern Michigan University to pursue a career in dermatology.
The scholarship is named after Stanley C. Beck, a former educator and Exchange Club member, who started the program in the 1970s. Thomson will now go on to compete for the Michigan District Exchange Club Scholarship.
The National Exchange Club is a group of men and women who look to make America a better place to live through one national service project, Prevention of Child Abuse and Awareness, and numerous other local community service projects.
