Ashley Gerszewski and Eric Shay exchanged their wedding vows Oct. 17, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hillman. Rev. Jason Mandley officiated the 3 p.m. double-ring ceremony. Rev. Earl Elowsky, uncle of the bride, served as a reader.
The bride is the daughter of Thomas and Dianne Gerszewski of Presque Isle, and the granddaughter of Esther Gerszewski of Alpena and Evelyn Koenig of Hillman. The groom is the son of Gerald Shay of Hillman and Sharon Shay of Hillman. He is the grandson of Alex Serwatowski of Novi.
Attending the bride as matron of honor was her cousin, Hillary Hiveley. Bridesmaids were Nicole Pusateri, cousin of the bride, and Kelli Mitchell, friend of the bride. The flower girl was McKenna Hiveley, cousin of the bride.
Attending the groom as best man was his friend, Kenneth Kolcan. Groomsmen were Ralph Banks and Jeremy Robertson, friends of the groom. The ring bearer was Caleb Hiveley, cousin of the bride. Ushers were Gabriel Gerszewski, brother of the bride, and Jonathan Hiveley, cousin of the bride. Serving as junior ushers were Kyle Peck and Bret Peck, cousins of the bride.
Following the ceremony, a reception in honor of the newlyweds was held at the Hillman Community Center. A rehearsal dinner took place in St. John's Christian Center.
Ashley is a 1997 graduate of Alpena High School and is employed at Alpena Regional Medical Center as a scanner. Eric is a 1997 Hillman High School graduate and is employed at Presque Isle Electric and Gas as a gas technician. The couple is residing in Hillman.
