Roy M. and Sally A. Wekwert of 17952 Birch, Alpena, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 17 with a mass and blessing at St. Anne Catholic Church given by Rev. Rolando Silva. A dinner and reception also was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Alpena.
Sharing in the celebration were several members of the original wedding, including Leonard and Kay Wekwert of Posen, Vincent and Audrey Filarski of Posen, and James Majewski of Rogers City. Unable to attend was Shirley Conner of Amarillo, Texas.
Mr. Wekwert and the former Sally Majewski were married Oct. 17, 1959, at St. Ignatius Church in Rogers City. Their children are Roy (Karen) Wekwert, Jr. of Alpena, Denise Schuch of Posen, Wayne (Ann) Wekwert of Mt. Pleasant, Renee (Kevan) Rogers of Alpena and Mary (Jason) Trudgen of Presque Isle.
The couple's grandchildren are Vannessa and Malary Wekwert, Nicole (Shawn) White, Matthew and Brandon Schuch, Andrew Wekwert, Alysha and Allison Rogers, Heather and Justin Trudgen, and step-granddaughter Jenny Strong. They also have one great-grandson, Cayden, and one step-great-granddaughter, Caydence.
Roy is a retired meat manager a Save-a-lot and Sally is retired from Alpena Regional Medical Center.
