Kathryn Marie Gonyea and Matthew John Sobek exchanged their wedding vows May 23 at Ossineke United Methodist Church. Rev. Stephen Euper officiated the 3 p.m. double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Steve and Betsy Gonyea of Spruce. The groom is the son of Stan and Sue Sobek of Posen.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was her friend, Kristy Slominski. Bridesmaids were Stephenye Boyat and Bethany Thomas, cousins of the bride, and Jeanne Raub, Mindy Schuch, Tammy Kroll and Sherie Manzo, sisters of the groom. The bride's cousins, Addison Guitar and Oliver Moster, served as flower girl and ring bearer.
Attending the groom as best man was his brother, Vince Sobek. Groomsmen were Joe Sobek and Mike Sobek, brothers of the groom, Chris Gonyea and Matt Gonyea, brothers of the bride, Chris Schuch, brother-in-law of the groom, and James Sobek, nephew of the groom. Ushers included Kevin Surbrook, cousin of the bride, Troy Krajniak, cousin of the groom, and Dustin Misiak, friend of the groom.
Following the ceremony, a reception in honor of the newlyweds was held at the Thunder Bay Recreation Center. Pre-nuptial parties included a rehearsal dinner at the Gonyea Farm.
Katy is a 2003 graduate of Alpena High School and a 2007 graduate of Michigan State University. She is currently attending the University of Pittsburgh and will graduate in 2012 with a doctoral degree in cellular and molecular pathology. Matt is a 2001 graduate of Posen High School and a 2007 and 2008 graduate of Ferris State University with degrees in manufacturing engineering and quality engineering. He is currently employed as a project quality engineer at Bombardier, Inc.
The couple traveled to Florida and the Bahamas for their honeymoon. They are residing in Pittsburgh, Pa.
