Exchange Club of Alpena recognizes four students

The Exchange Club of Alpena recently named Alex Borchert, Jesselyn Zbytowski, Sara Grochowski and Julianne Hammond as Youth of Month winners. The students were judged on their school GPA and extracurricular accomplishments. Additionally, community service and involvement were considered.

From this group of leaders of tomorrow, Borchert was awarded the Exchange Club’s Stanley Beck Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. He is the son of John and Pam Borchert, and will represent the club in the Michigan District Exchange Club scholarship program as well.

Borchert is an outstanding student and a well-rounded individual. He is a three-sport athlete in track, soccer and basketball. He also was recently named a National Merit Finalist, which puts him in unique company with the top 1 percent of all seniors in the country academically.

Borchert’s current plans are to attend the University of Michigan with career aspirations of becoming an emergency room physician.

The National Exchange Club is a group of men and women working to make America a better place to live through one national project, Prevention of Child Abuse, and other community service projects.
