Children’s book by Alpena native helps in the fight against pediatric cancer
“Ashleigh’s Rainbow,” authored by mother and daughter, Amy and Ashleigh Kieliszewski, is set for release on the second anniversary of Ashleigh’s passing, March 29.
Amy Kieliszewski will appear at the Alpena County Library from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, where the new books will be available for purchase and signing.
Amy and her husband, Jeff, both Alpena natives, founded Ashleigh Marie Books LLC in honor of their 4 and 1/2 year old daughter, who fought a courageous 21-month battle with cancer (neuroblastoma). Ashleigh died in March 2006, and the Ashleigh Marie Series is based on her experiences and heartfelt words.
“Ashleigh’s Rainbow” is a follow-up to “Ashleigh’s Fairies,” a 2007 Gold Medal Winner at the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards. The award-winning first book (released March 2007) details conversations Ashleigh shared about visits from her “fairy friends” in the months prior to her passing. This colorful illustrated book was honored with the Gold Medal Award in November 2007 in Chicago.
“Ashleigh Marie Books serves to share stories of Ashleigh’s life, helping us to recognize and appreciate the wonderment of childhood and the beautiful love children possess for the world around them,” said her mom, Amy.
Proceeds from the sales of the books are donated to the Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation and other organizations that help in the fight against pediatric cancers.
“Ashleigh’s Rainbow” details Ashleigh’s observations and ideas about rainbows. What makes this colorful and inspiring book particularly special is the collection of illustrators. The book features illustrations by Ashleigh and friends. Several of these friends have or are currently battling childhood cancer.
Both “Ashleigh’s Rainbow” and “Ashleigh’s Fairies,” published by Ashleigh Marie Books LLC of Grand Rapids, are available for purchase at www.AshleighMarieBooks.com or at select retailers in the Michigan.
