STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) — A woman whose car hit a pothole on M-59 pulled into a Detroit-area gas station where officials were holding a news conference — about potholes.
Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel got on his knees Friday to change a bad tire on Laura Davis' Volkswagen. He and state lawmakers were holding a news conference to talk about the need for more money to fix crumbling roads.
State Rep. Marilyn Lane says roads are not Republican or Democrat. She says they belong to the people.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is warning that roads will get worse as the state goes through a seasonal freeze-and-thaw cycle. Spokeswoman Diane Cross says "this is the tip of the iceberg."
