DETROIT (AP) — The state of Michigan has suspended the mortuary license of a Detroit-area man who's also in hot water with New York regulators and under scrutiny by the FBI.
Michigan suspended Arthur Rathburn's license last week, alleging that he embalmed bodies at a Detroit address that doesn't have a funeral home license. FBI agents wearing hazmat suits searched the site in December.
Michigan regulators also say the suspension is based on actions taken in January by the New York State Department of Health.
New York yanked a license for a human tissue bank. That state says Rathburn's company, International Biological, was disposing of tissue in a dangerous manner. No other details were available.
An email seeking comment Monday was sent to Rathburn. His phone number in Grosse Pointe Park is disconnected.
