The title of this article should be, "Benishek repeats Republican talking points and Alpena News publishes them unchecked."

Does death by pistol whipping count as a gun crime, or blunt object murder?

Did Steve Schultz ask Benishek why anyone would need a 30 round clip attached to his tool? The right wing nuts have become so desperate they will claim the 8,583 guns were blunt objects. Machine guns were outlawed long before most of us were born and yet somehow we survived with our 10 round clip autoloads which aren't mentioned in the 2nd amendment. Vote in reasonableness, vote out Dan Benishek.

His comments are just boiler plate republican talking points. He supports the Ryan budget plan that cuts social security and Medicare, but did he mention that? Of course not, truth is not in his agenda.....shredder

Not a word from the good doctor about the bloated Pentagon Budget, which, instead of defending America, is responsible for bankrupting America, with all the unnecessary war mongering. Were any questions asked of him?

Beni is counting on you not remembering his voting record. First, Beni voted FOR the sequester on Aug 1, 2011. His leader John Boehner said it was a good deal because republicans got what they wanted. If Beni is so concerned about what will happen why isn’t he and his leadership in Washington working out a plan to avert sequester? His statements on gun control are right off a republican talking points memo being used by republicans all across the country this week. No one, not even the President is talking about abridging the Second Amendment. Just stopping the sale of military style assault weapons and high capacity clips. That ridiculous comment that more people are killed by hammers than guns? Another republican talking point. Just look it up to see how many republicans are saying it. The truth is 8,583 people were killed by guns in 2011. 496 by clubs or hammers. Beni is part of the problem in our do-nothing congress. Vote the bum out!

Georgia congressman Paul Broun claimed after Tuesday’s State of the Union address that “There are more people killed with baseball bats and hammers than are killed with guns.” According to FBI data, 8,583 people were murdered with firearms in 2011. Only 496 people were killed by blunt objects, a category that includes not just hammers and baseball bats but crowbars, rocks, paving stones, statuettes, and electric guitars. What happened to Journalism that actually checked facts rather than just being a mouth piece.

"...more people are killed by hammers each year than with bullets. Nine-eleven occurred because of box-cutters." Seriously?! Hammers don't kill people, people kill people. And I thought 19 men and 4 airplanes caused 9-11. Thanks for enlightening me.

Spot on Dr. Dan! Guns are a tool and just like any tools that are abused we can not go around banning hammers hoping that will prevent psychopaths from killing! Would have liked to have shaked your hand at the chamber dinner tonight but you were busy! Keep up the fight! and Thank you!
