So when a Catholic priest receives a death threat, the Church's policy is to alert proper law enforcement authorities, but when a priest is accused of sexually assaulting a child, the Church's policy is to deal with it internally, NOT alert proper law enforcement authorities, and move the priest to fresh hunting grounds?

I hope this isn't the same 32-year-old male idiot that defaced/vandalised St. Anne's and St. Bernard Catholic Churches in 2010.

Maybe the police need to check out those (victims) who are angry with the priest for his past actions.

No wait! Lets ignore the obvious....

The Catholic Church has been persecuted for nearly its entire existence. It has prevailed for over 2000 years, is still prevailing, and will continue to succeed. Many prayers and blessings for Father Schafer and the entire Church. :)

Rumor, innuendo, and things left unsaid. Typical in the comments here.

While we typically do not respond to individual opinions or comments, it is important that we correct erroneous information proffered in one of the comments here. In fact, for many, many years it has been -- and remains -- the policy and practice of the Diocese of Gaylord to report all allegations of abuse of a minor involving those acting on behalf of the Church to civil authorities. For more information regarding the Church's efforts to protect children, please visit ****dioceseofgaylord**** and click on Child Protection for more information.

We deeply appreciate the assistance of local law enforcement and other civil authorities in all circumstances and would be grateful for the prayers of the community during this difficult time.

@shredder and zitiqueen --- You appear to be making assumptions about Fr. Schaeffer. If he has erred, God will judge him accordingly. But whether he has or not, you, without having been there, don't have the right to play God.

marx.. You are wrong. Everyone has the right to play a god or a Bigfoot if they have a sheet and sandals or a hairy suit and big feet:)

Maybe the "cover-ups" we have been reading about for many, many years don't apply to every town but who would believe a web site written by people who claim dead isn't dead.

Marxalert, god must have taken a leave of absence in this church on pedophilia. Either that or pedophila is ingrained into this church. Has anyone seen anything serious on the causes of priests attacking children? Report it? bleh, how about finding the causes and stopping it? shredder

CommDirector, you make reporting pedophiles sound like a major concession from this church. From the top down there is a major problem of accountability....shredder

shredder..Sexualities are so integral to the survival of species that it attaches to most anything. Diversity is normal though not always adaptive at a given time.
