Eagles land in first

Alcona’s Shannon McNichols carries the baton during the fourth leg of the girls 3,200-meter relay on Friday at the Hillman Invitational. McNichols, who had two individual firsts on the day, also helped the Tigers win the 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

A top notch performance in the 3,200 was the big key to Fairview’s victory as the Eagles took first (Camille Szubelak), third (Rachel Lanczak) and fourth (Kallie Yoder) in that event. Alcona received a second-place finish from Laura Pelton to keep Fairview from claiming each of the top spots.

Three girls won a pair of events each at the seven-team meet. Alcona’s Shannon McNichols took the 1,600 (5:44.9) and the 800 (2:38.
