| | Oh, those New York governorsMarch 24, 2008 - Steve MurchHow long do you think New York’s new governor is going to last? Gov. David Paterson, who announced almost immediately following his swearing-in that he had an extra-marital affair, now is admitting to drug use. The Associated Press reported he said in a television interview that he tried cocaine a couple of times in his early 20s and smoked marijuana prior to that. Paterson is now 53. Having seen the tabloid journalism some New York papers practice, you can just imagine the headlines in Tuesday’s papers. However, if any of them had done their homework they’d already know he admitted to the use in 2006. Just because a person did drugs 30 years ago doesn’t suggest anything. How many of us have done things in our late teens and early 20s that, given outside scrutiny, would embarrass us? Plenty I’m sure. I’m just wondering what the next “revelation” will be coming from Albany. If nothing else, those New York governors sure know how to grab the headlines.
