Spotlight on local writers
March 20, 2008 - Diane Speer
Looks like the spotlight will be on some local writers in the next few weeks.
Alpena native and children’s book author Amy Kieliszewski is returning to the area, where on March 29 at 2 p.m. at Alpena County Library, she will autograph copies of her second children’s book, “Ashleigh’s Rainbow.” She started her Ashleigh Marie series in honor of her daughter, who died in March 2006 after fighting a courageous 21-month battle with an aggressive solid tumor cancer.
Local poet Dave Fraser will present his new book, “Killing Trout and Other Love Poems,” during a poetry reading at 2 p.m. April 6, also at Alpena County Library. A Detroit native, for the last 30 years Fraser has been working, writing poems and sticking them in drawers, fishing and kicking around the woods of northern Michigan. This is his first book.
And finally, Alpena native and author Bill Stout will present a discussion at the library on duck hunting, April 10 at 7 p.m. His book, “Saginaw Bay: Waterfowl Hunting and Decoy Carvers,” was published in 2007.
It’s inspiring to see people like these three realize their dreams and become published authors. It’s also great to know we have a public library that supports their endeavors.
