Really stupid criminals
March 19, 2008 - Steve Murch
You can chalk this one up to being either arrogant, stupid or both.
Did you hear about the guys who posted the video on YouTube about how to scam Del Taco in the Los Angeles area? The video show this guy getting all sorts of food from Del Taco for free. The large man is sitting in his vehicle yucking it up.
At the end he holds up a note on a cardboard as a NikelNDime Production.
Apparently the scam went something like this: The guy and his accomplices called the restaurant and said they had order all sorts of food but the restaurant screwed up their order in the drive-thru.
Making sure to have good customer service, Del Taco made things right. Where it screwed up was not checking out the story for validity. Someone should have asked for a receipt to see where they screwed up and to make sure they could right the wrong.
So that’s the arrogance of the criminal. The stupidity comes in simply by posting it for the world to see. Talk about giving law enforcement all it needs to prosecute — and convict.
One of the L.A. television stations said the bill he scammed totaled about $15. The one guy received something like 30 days in jail and probation. His accomplices, for whom is about to rollover on, could get multiple years out of the deal.
I hope they enjoyed the $15 worth of food.
