Basketball on the couch
March 17, 2008 - Steve Murch
One of the advantages of being under the weather (if there is such a thing as an advantage when sick), is having an excuse for lying on the couch all afternoon. That was the case for me Sunday. With it being Selection Sunday and several conference conducting their men’s basketball championships, I had planned on watching anyway. Not feeling well, I slept a little and listened more than watching.
That might have turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I can’t tell you how tired of hearing the talking heads beg for this team and that team to be included in the NCAA tourney. If they had their way, there would 100 teams and no mid-majors.
If one thing was clear, and I guess it might not be crystal clear since I wasn’t 100 percent — Bob Knight shouldn’t be an analyst. He just seemed like he didn’t want to be there and wanted to create controversy when there wasn’t any. I hope this is a one year experiment for ESPN. Knight added nothing to Selection Sunday. He was much better earlier in “Championship Week.”
And what was with him being special and the only one not wearing a jacket and tie?
Coach, watch the tapes of the days before the weekend and then the weekend. If ESPN has you back, be more like the early days and not the last one.
