Manning Flops Again...Saints March In.
September 2, 2014 - Steve Schulwitz
I want to pick the Lions to make the playoffs. I really do, but even though I think they have a good enough roster to compete for a wildcard, the NFC is just loaded with teams better than Detroit. That is not going to stop me from making my annual NFL predictions however.
In my mind there will be very few surprises this season and who makes the playoffs. I also expect that although there will be one new team in the Big Game this year, the results will be about the same as last season.
I am picking the New Orleans Saints to square off with the Denver Broncos in Glendale, Arizona with the Saints prevailing 34-27. Once again I believe, and I've been right about this for years, Peyton Manning will throw a crucial interception that leads to the winning touchdown being scored late. Manning, in my opinion, is the greatest regular season quarterback in the game's history, but he also shrinks when the lights are brightest and this year will be no different.
In the NFC I have the Eagles, Bears, Seahawks and Saints winning their divisions, with the 49'ers and Falcons earning wildcard births. The Saints offense is the beneficiary of some late pass interference calls from an aggressive Seattle secondary in the conference championship game and move on.
In the AFC the Patriots win the east with the Bengels, Broncos, Colts finishing on top of the standings. Manning outduels an outgunned New England squad to set up the Saints upset in Super Bowl XLIX.
As for the Lions I think they'll finish second in the central but fall short of making the playoffs with a 9-7 record.
Chalk it up!
