Great way to start the morning
May 11, 2012 - Diane Speer
I don't normally get up at 5:30 in the morning to start my work day, but I was motivated today in the interest of attending the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Good Morning, Alpena breakfast. This breakfast is held every quarter so that people can come together and be informed about all the positive things taking place or coming up in our community. What a great way to start the day!
First off, the event was held in the always inspiring Art in the Loft space and catered by the always scrumptious Fresh Palate. Those in attendance heard brief updates about the Alpena Farmers Market that kicks off this Saturday, about the official grand opening of the recreational North Eastern State Trail that links Alpena to Cheboygan, and about all the ultra-interesting activities planned this summer at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center.
Chamber Director Jackie Krawczak took a few minutes to share about exciting in-roads the chamber is making, Art in the Loft Gallery Coordinator Liz Smigelski talked about a myriad of outstanding art-related opportunities and Alpena Regional Medical Center CEO Karom Bjella gave a brief overview of where our hospital is headed.
My motivation to attend, of course, was helped along by the fact The Alpena News was serving as host of the Good Morning, Alpena breakfast. Consequently, my husband, Publisher and Editor Bill Speer, just happened to be the MC of the event, Circulation Director Ken Pokorzynski gave the joke of the day, Advertising Manager Laura Lancewicz updated folks on what's new with their community newspaper and a number of other staff members came to lend their support.
Judging by the comments heard as everyone was heading off to face the rest of their day, the breakfast was a big hit and provided many, many solid reasons to celebrate our town! I can't think of a better way to start the day.
