Has the fat lady sung yet?
April 12, 2010 - Bill Speer
The Associated Press moved a story today about a meeting last week in Massachusetts where a group of economists gathered to determine whether the current recession has ended or not.
What do you think? Has it or hasn't it?
The distinguished group couldn't come to a consensus. They agreed as to when the current recession began - December of 2007, but they believe it "too preliminary" yet to actually state when the recession ended, or if it even did.
I ask again: What do you think? Do you have an extra dollar in your wallet at the end of the week? Do you feel you have enough to buy all the groceries you need? Are you working at a job that you want to be working at?
Or, do you find yourself in a predicament, caught between what often seems like a rock and a hard place? You want to work, but can't find a job. You want to take the kids on a short vacation this summer to let them see another part of the state, but it all depends on whether you can afford the gas and whether the car holds up from the last repair you did to it.
The truth is, talk is cheap some days. In the end, who really cares if the recession is over or not? What really matters to many is just to have a roof over their head tonight and a full stomach at the end of the day.
For many, that is enough of a challenge from day-to-day.
