coming back home...
April 2, 2010 - Steve Schulwitz
How many times have I typed those two words over the course of the last several years? The county and the people in it have played a vital role in helping me blossom as a reporter and for that I will always owe them. The time to bid farewell is drawing near however, as earlier this week I was informed that my coverage area will be switched to Alpena County. Although I will miss my beat in Atlanta and Hillman, I am thrilled and feel I am up to the task.
This opportunity is something that I have longed for since the day I began as a sport's stringer for the paper more than a decade ago. I attended Alpena's schools, I worshiped at the local churches and been cared for by the local doctors and dentists. In other worlds, although I currently live in Rogers City, Alpena always has been and always will be my hometown.
I know things are currently challenging in Alpena and in all of Northeast Michigan for that matter. Because of these difficult times there will be stories that could frustrate, concern or perplex the reader. I also promise to deliver as many feel good and positive news articles as I possibly can as well.
Thank you Montmorency and thank you Alpena. It is my pleasure to be able to serve you and I 'm looking forward to becoming a staple once more in my hometown.
