Murch, March & Madness

March 15, 2010 - Bill Speer

I have to hand it to Steve Murch, Apena News Managing Editor, he know's how to pick a winner. Almost.

Steve a few minutes ago updated his blog and offered readers his picks in the NCAA basketball tournament affectionally known as March Madness. You can read his blog and check out his picks. Once there, you will see he has the national championship game featuring Kansas and West Virginia.

Kansas was last year's national champion, currently is ranked number one in the country and was generally picked by most at the beginning of the year to fare well, which they have.

West Virginia, meanwhile, never was ranked number one this year, plays in the very tough BIg East Conference and just barely snuck by Georgetown to win that conference's championship Saturday in New York City. The last time they won a national championship Jerry West was their point guard.

Common sense tells you, like Steve did, to go with Kansas. Not me. Accuse me of being a "homer" but I'm going with my alma mater and Bob Huggins' crew in Morgantown.

I'm thinking John Denver's country roads are leading to Indianapolis this year. WVU fans are going to find out that for a few days, at least, "almost heaven" is there instead of West Virginia.

So bring it on. Let's goooooooo... Mountaineers!!!!!
