| | Face it, they are national mediaJanuary 30, 2008 - Steve MurchSyndicated columnists drive me batty occasionally. A great number of the offenders are conservative columnist, but there are liberal columnists who have the same annoying characteristic. What is that characteristic? Blasting “national media.” The worst offender of the bunch is Bill O’Reilly. He tries to come off as this person who is independent of the media, when in fact there is no bigger media person in the country. He works for Fox News Channel, “the most-watched news source.” Actually, he doesn’t just work for them, he is the face of the network. He has a column that appears in papers across the country (including this newspaper), and he is an author. If that isn’t national media, then there is no such thing. There are others who do the same thing. While they don’t have regular TV gigs, they are syndicated around the country. Their readership probably reaches the millions. Yes, Bill O’Reilly, Michelle Malkin, Thomas Sowell and everyone else who has a syndicated column and complains about national media, get the message — YOU ARE NATIONAL MEDIA.
