Still talking books

February 12, 2010 - Diane Speer
This is my first blog post-NIE Book Sale as my blog writing slid while I spent all my extra time at work in the weeks prior to the Feb. 6 event sorting books. Let me just say that there were a LOT of books to sort and box, then haul over to the Thunder Bay Rec Center (I had help from some of the guys on staff with the hauling part!).

Thanks to the generosity of the public, I think we had the most books ever donated for the sale. A special shout out goes to Besser School students who partnered with us and rounded up more than 5,000 volumes alone.

I pretty much kept on top of sorting the book donations as they came in until the school's 5,000 were collected and brought to The News office for me to sort. That was one overwhelming day!

The other factor that resulted in an extremely successful NIE Book Sale was the amount of people who turned out to buy books. It was phenomenal, and as a result, the sale made the most money ever to date - more than $4,500.

It was great to be a part of such a successful event, but I am more than a little glad that it is mostly behind me. There still is one more fun aspect remaining - the pizza party that we are throwing for the Beth Kollien's fourth grade class at Besser School which collected the most books. That's set for Feb. 19 and we are looking forward to it.
