Our Olympics correspondent is back

February 11, 2010 - Steve Murch
I just received my first e-mail from our Olympics “correspondent” today. Alpena native Margaret Mack sent us photos from around Beijing during the 2008 Summer Olympics. Once again, she is working behind the scenes for NBC during the Olympic Games.

Margaret's brother, Circuit Court Judge Mike Mack, connected us with her during the Beijing Games and her photos from around the city were well received. It only seemed natural that since she is working Vancouver that I ask her if she would again give us some photos. She agreed to do it. After meeting her for the first after the Beijing Games, I had no doubt she would do. What initially started as a short visit turned into a long conversation with Bill Speer and I. She is an incredibly nice person and I look forward to seeing her again when she comes back to Alpena for a visit.

For those who might not remember, or weren't in Alpena during the 2008 Games, Margaret is an Emmy winner who has worked every Olympics since the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France.

In her first e-mail she said her lodging is close to the hockey venue and the hockey fans are arriving en masse. Of course, Canada being a hockey country and hopes are high for the Canadian Olympic hockey team I'm sure only adds to the excitement for those fans.

I look forward to Margaret's occasional e-mails and her take on the Games. I hope you do too.
