Don't Worry, Be Happy!
December 18, 2009 - Bill Speer
If you think your next door neighbor has been a Scrooge this Christmas season, you might just be right. A new study released this week indicates there is a good chance Scrooge might call Michigan home, as our state finished 49th out of 51 (District of Columbia treated as a state) for overall residents' happiness. Not surprising, warmer states ranked higher in the study than cold climate ones. The information was released in an article that can be found in the Journal Science. It is based on a question posed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention between 2005 and 2008 that asked "How satisfied are you with your life?"
Louisiana, Hawaii and Florida ranked 1 through 3, while Michigan, Connecticut and New York ranked 49-51.
I suppose the finding shouldn't be a surprise in a state going through the economic turmoil that we are.
The next time a person looks at you the wrong way in the week ahead, simply respond with a hearty "Ho, Ho, Ho." Unless of course they are a real Scrooge, then "Bah Humbug" will suffice.
