Life after TBT

January 23, 2008 - Diane Speer
It’s always interesting to hear what performers end up doing once they leave Thunder Bay Theatre. Darin Polla is one of those actors who you wish well. He was fairly young when he first came from the Detroit area to Alpena and joined the TBT core company. Audiences watched him grow over ensuing seasons, and he quickly became a fan favorite, starring in many, many shows. Last fall, Polla headed off to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., where he performed in a holiday musical production at Dollywood called “Christmas in the Smokies.” Since then, he’s moved on to the Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, N.J., as part of a children’s outreach theatre company that travels to area schools. And apparently, Polla did such a good job at Dollywood that he’s been invited back there again for the next summer and fall seasons. I know I’m certainly glad to hear things are going fairly well for him. So too is his aunt, the Rev. Karen Thompson, who is herself a veteran of numerous productions at both Alpena Civic Theatre and Thunder Bay Theatre.
