No one goes home
December 18, 2008 - Steve Murch
So no one is going home on Top Chef this week. I guess that shouldn’t be surprising since it was the Christmas show. It’s not unprecedented; there was at least one other time they’ve kept everyone and Tom Colicchio has given the “start cooking better” pep talk.
Last night they had to cook dishes for an Amfar and the dishes they prepared were based on the 12 days of Christmas. How they came up with dishes based on that is beyond me. Of course, I think they just make up an excuse to make something that could barely pass for a tie-in to the food.
Just like every week, there is at least one dish that made me hungry. This time it was Hosea’s smoked pork loin and chipotle mashed potatoes. Then he had redo his dish since the pork loin was a in refrigerator that had the door left ajar overnight and the pork was not good enough to serve. Radikha was the other person who had her dish spoiled. The rest of the chefs pitched in to help them get something together and both Hosea and Radikha wound up in the top four. Ah the spirit of the holidays.
I’ve been thinking all along that the chefs and the dishes don’t measure up to the last two seasons, and apparently Colicchio thought so to. They gave the crew a fresh start and the promo for the next episode (not for three weeks due to the holidays) has the chefs preparing their favorite dish. If they screw that up, then they deserve to go.
