Mixed bag for first show

Well the first episode of Top Chef didn’t reveal much in terms of favorites. Neither John Bronz nor I were crazy about the Rainbow Coalition. Both of us, however, believe the woman (sorry, not up on the names yet) could do well.
I didn’t particularly like the way the Europeans vs. U.S. played out. Maybe that was real or maybe it was editing. It’s cooking people.
It wasn’t surprising that the 21-year-old culinary school student was given the boot. He probably wouldn’t have lasted much longer because of his inexperience.
The quick-fire challenge elimination to start the whole competition was a nice twist. The person eliminated never even got to work in the kitchen. I also liked the way they had them prep the apples. I can’t imagine dicing the apples so fine. I think that’s part of why I like the show, because they can do things in the kitchen and with food that I in no way could do.
It does seem that there are a lot more people with big egos this season. That’s what was interesting last year, the longer it went the fewer egos there were. Hopefully some of them get chopped down to size soon.
