Entertaining visitors

October 23, 2008 - Diane Speer
As per usual, there is a lot going on this weekend in and around Alpena. I for one am glad, since I’m hosting out of town company (my husband’s aunt and uncle from Cleveland, Ohio). It’s great to have options for entertaining while our relatives are visiting. We’re going to catch the “Falling into Quilts” show at Art in the Loft, where I’m told 85 quilts of various sizes, styles and colors make a huge visual impact. Dawn Romel, one of the exhibitors, told me just yesterday to be sure and see her quilt that features fun flip flops!

We gave our company the choice of either catching a show at Thunder Bay Theatre (the comedy, “The Kitchen Witches”) or at Alpena Civic Theatre (the musical, “Calamity Jane”). They opted for TBT, so we’ll be heading there as well.

Hitting a few downtown shops (they love Lasting Expressions and The Marketplace) also are on the agenda as is a visit to the Alpena Farmer’s Market and a walk around Island Mill Park and the great pathway behind Fletcher Street Brewing Co. Additionally, we’re taking them to the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center to experience the outstanding new ship exhibit there.

Our company is family, and so they would probably come and visit us anyway, but living where we do makes them want to travel northward from Cleveland all the more. Over the years, they have come to love Alpena....just like we do!
