Keep on moving
September 1, 2008 - Steve Murch
Saturday was the 7th annual Aliferis Memorial Run/Walk. There were over 150 people who took part between the three different events — 5K run/walk, 15K run, 15K bike race.
I would give the event a big thumb’s up. Great participation, great volunteers running the event and a beautiful to run or pedal.
The only down side for me was the person — who shall remain nameless — who had his son pedaling his bike alongside him during the 5K. I was nearly taken out by the errant cyclist as he pull right in front of me, bringing me to a nearly dead stop. It’s not like I was going to win or it killed my momentum, it’s the fact that it wasn’t a bright decision to have the tike riding among all the runners.
My dad, who is 72, wasn’t the oldest runner in the race. Bob Esford was listed as 79. He finished in under 40 minutes and my dad finished in just over 33 minutes. Talk about motivation. We all can take a page from them and keep it going.
