Roger Clemens ... family man

May 1, 2008 - Steve Murch
Roger Clemens troubles just keep getting deeper. While nothing has been proven, with what seems to be accusations every day, the old adage where there’s smoke there’s fire seems to become more of a possibility.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Clemens stood before members of Congress and told them he was an upstanding citizen and family man. The last couple of days the stories by the New York Daily News certainly taint that image, if not completely obliterate it.

The first story that broke was that Clemens had a relationship with Mindy McCready when he was 28 and the father of two, and she was 15. The most recent story is that Clemens had a relationship with golfer John Daly’s former wife, Paulette Dean Daly. The Daily News reports that Clemens flew Daly into the Anaheim when the Yankees the Angels (the story link is to the right and there are links to the other stories the Daily News has run).

Now, if they are true, why should we believe Clemens didn’t lie about steroids?

No, it’s not a stretch from philanderer to baseball cheat. Remember, he told Congress he was a family man. What kind of family man throws his wife under the bus during testimony and, if the stories are true, has multiple affairs behind her back?

If he lied about being a family man, he certainly could have lied about steroids. The Rocket’s image was tarnished before he latest stories; now what is it?
