Crop for a cause
April 28, 2008 - Diane Speer
If you’re into scrapbooking AND helping a worthwhile organization, a special event this Saturday (May 3) will combine an opportunity to do both.
The Alzheimer’s Association is teeming up with the Forget-Me-Not Shoppe at the Center Building in downtown Alpena to host a Crop for the Cause benefit. Nearly 20 local businesses have donated items to be given away during the event. Besides great door prizes, participants will enjoy a Chinese raffle, snacks and professionals on hand to answer any scrapbooking questions. Make-n-take classes also will be offered throughout the day.
As an avid scrapbooker, I’ve attended previous scrapbooking events at the Forget-Me-Not Shoppe, and can honestly say it’s great fun being around others who share this hobby. Not only do you get uninterupted time to actually complete some scrapbook pages, but seeing the creativity and ideas of others is always inspiring.
Besides, who can argue about the very real need for a group like the Alzheimer’s Association? Local coordinator Diane O’Connor has done a lot of behind the scenes work to pull this event together. Here’s to hoping she meets with great success. The registration fee is $20, with all proceeds going to the local Alzheimer’s group. Hours of the event are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Participants must register by May 1.
