Who’s behind Voters Not Politicians?

Who are the people behind Proposal 2? Changing the so-called gerrymandering of districts on the November ballot. I did a search on databases, state and federal level, and found nothing by that name. I found a committee on the Michigan Secretary of State site calling itself Michigan League of Responsible Voters, a Super Political Action Committee. Apparently, they exist because a search found an article on “who is funding the fight” on the Bridge Magazine site at bridgemi.com/public-sector/who-funding-fight-over-redistricting-proposal-michigan. The Bridge’s mission: “to inform Michigan citizens through fact-based, nonpartisan journalism that identifies critical issues and helps citizens navigate the challenges of our civic life”.

The report states: “In September, VNP (Voters Not Politicians) received a huge boost with the announcement of a $250,000 donation from the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), a group headed by Eric Holder, U.S. attorney general in the Obama administration. IRS filings show NDRC’s mission is ‘to build a comprehensive plan to favorably position Democrats for the redistricting process through 2022.'”

The issue of redistricting is based on the Apol Standard and Federal Civil Rights Law, which mandates the voter base in creating districts in the state. These standards are according to our constitution. Yes, the majority party in the Michigan House of Representatives do “chair” these proceedings. The minority party must have the same number on the committee. The current administration must make the final decision. So, the legislators, both Republican and Democrat, elected by the people of each district, are now making those decisions. So, why is the name of this committee called VOTERS NOT POLITICIANS?

I am voting NO on Proposal 2. The final decision was made when the League of Women Voters hosted an informational session and the presenter was the former Democratic candidate for the Legislature.
