We need to start loving, trusting God again

Thank you for including Star Parker’s column in the Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, Alpena News under Commentary, page 4A. She notes that she will be joining the hundreds of thousands who will be arriving in Washington, D.C. for the March for Life. She indicates that the March for Life notes the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision on Jan. 22, 1973, which legalized abortion in this nation.

She states that since the Roe v. Wade decision the American family has collapsed. As she points out, in 1960, 73 percent of all children were living with two parents in a first marriage. By 2014, this was down to 46 percent. She concludes “at the core of that collapse is the absence of reverence for the sanctity of life.”

As a nation, we need to confess that by our silence or apathy we have allowed this disaster to continue for 45 years in this nation. We need to turn to the God who creates and sustains life, who sent His Son to save us from the power of sin and death, and who promises to forgive all who repent and put their trust in Him. Only then, by His grace and mercy, will we experience the healing we need as a nation.

It’s not about choice. It’s about putting our trust in Him and His Word. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
