Officials need to do better with tax money

Good letter Zach Boyle. This state is in dire need of tax reform. I just returned from Florida, a state where there is no income tax. Their sales tax is 7 percent and a two liter bottle of Skyy vodka is $20. The same bottle in Michigan will cost you $26.99. More than 35% more. A gallon of gas is 36 cents a gallon less in Florida, so what gives? Michigan Treasury officials will argue that Florida has more tourists than Michigan, so they have more revenue. Michigan just upped the registration fees on all automobiles and raised the gas tax seven cents a gallon, to work on the roads. Which by the way are only worked on from March to November. Florida works on their roads 24/7, 365 days a year. I’ll bet that costs way more to do than what Michigan pays out. Now granted Florida does have a lot of winter time visitors, but Michigan has many visitors in the summer months. It just comes down to this folks, we have too many special interest programs in the three counties around Detroit. All of our hard earned tax revenue flows toward that one little spot in the state. It’s time that Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties start contributing to and not taking from Michigan. The elected officials in those three counties shovel out our tax money to the residents in those three counties just to get re-elected. Until those residents start pulling their own weight we are doomed to keep paying higher and higher taxes. Sad thing thing is, we probably will never be relieved of that burden. I guess we can hope for a miracle.
