Thankful for our firefighters

Thank you, firefighters, for being there when we need you.

We are reminded of the wonderful job those men and women do with Friday morning’s early fire at KiKi Cuyler’s in Harrisville. In very cold conditions, firefighters battled the blaze to the end, trying to preserve a Harrisville landmark.

Some of our region’s firefighters are paid. Others are volunteers. All have put in a good bit of time to be trained and certified — ready and willing to be there in a time of need.

And, unfortunately, fire doesn’t happen according to a schedule. Often, it occurs at the most inconvenient of times and places — in the dark of night, in the midst of a blizzard, with no easy access to a hydrant or water supply.

Yet, regardless of the circumstances, it is comforting to know there are brave men and women who will answer the call and come to our aid.

Harrisville lost a landmark Friday, which is indeed unfortunate.

Firefighters responded quickly and attempted to do everything possible, however, to preserve what they could.

No one could have asked for anything more.

To firefighters across Northeast Michigan: “Thank you.”
