Lifeguards returning to Starlite Beach a welcome addition

Lifeguards are returning to Starlite Beach.

After a long absence that left the city beach unprotected, a private entity, Northstar Executive Protection, has offered to place lifeguards at the beach on Fridays and Saturdays, from noon until 8 p.m. The offer to the city comes with no financial expectation as Northstar is volunteering their services.

Municipal council approved the concept earlier in the week.

Thankfully, we have not had any major swimming accidents at Starlite, but that doesn’t mean we should become complacent about the water. Within recent weeks, for instance, the National Weather Service issued rip tide warnings for this area.

Northstar staff should be commended for their willingness to provide this valuable service. With the new Rotary Splash Park and other improvements that have been made at Starlite, use of the beach is only going to grow. With so many residents and guests now making a day at the beach a special outing, it will be nice to know lifeguards will be on hand during some of the busiest times to make the swimming experience a safe and enjoyable one.
